Fernão Padrom

Biographical Note:

Troubadour most probable native of Galicia, where his family name is documented in a lineage of knights, certainly originary from the locality of Padrón (maybe in the current county of Ames, south of Santiago de Compostela). His biography remains somewhat obscure. A Fernão Pais Padrom appears in documents from the vault of the Tojo Outos monastery, between 1164 and 1178, possibly the same that witnesses a document (1175) of Fernando Ponce o Menor, an uncle of João Velaz, one of the ancient troubadours1, A domni Fernandi Pelagii dicti Padrom appearing .in another document from Tojos Outos, but from 1217, could be his son. In any case, and given his place in the manuscripts, which points to a troubadourean activity in the beginning of the 13th century, Fernão Padrom could be a son (or a grandson) of the former, and thus belonging to an important Galician family related with other troubadour's families. It should be added that a certain Elvira Padrõa is also mentioned in a song that João Romeu do Lugo addresses to the troubadour Lopo Dias. We don’t know her relation to Fernão Padrom, but it is possible that they were relatives.
