Rodrigo Anes de Alvares Nationality: Portuguesa Biographical Note: Portuguese troubadour, active in the third quarter of the 13th century. Natural of Alvares (nowadays Dalvares), near Lamego, he was son of João Soares Chico, from Leomil, and Teresa Gonçalves Bezerra (niece of the famous alcaide Sueiro Bezerra, to whom Airas Peres de Vuiturom addresses his famous song against the “traitor” alcaides). According to Resende de Oliveira1, “the 1258 royal inquiries give us the image that he would be a turbulent noble, wary of his interests and feared, in Tarouca, by the King’s men”. He should have died shortly before 1290. We also know that his sister Teresa Anes was married to Rui Mendes da Fonseca, half-brother of the troubadour Pero Mendes da Fonseca.
