Airas Veaz Nationality: Portuguesa? Biographical Note: We don’t know much about this author, that may be Portuguese according to Giulia Lanciani1. Resende de Oliveira2 confirms that the surname Veyaz or Vaaz appears in the Portuguese documentation from the thirteen and fourteen centuries, but was unable to locate the real name of the troubadour. It’s possible that he frequented the court of Alfonso X, given his satirical song against Fernam Furado (that may have been the Fernão Dias satiryzed by the alfonsine troubadours). Moreover, a certain Airas Veaz is also mentioned in a song by Vasco Peres Pardal, performing the functions of alcaide in the lands of Castile, and he may possibly be our troubadour.
