Airas Soares ou Oares
Trovador medieval

Não são conhecidas cantigas deste autor.

Nationality: Galega?

Biographical Note:

Although his name appears in the Colicci Index as the author of three love songs, none of these compositions have reached us, since they would have been in the inicial and nowadays lost sheets of the National Library of Portugal Songbook. Moreover, with the current state of our knowledge, his identification isn’t reliable. Resende de Oliveira1 has suggested that he would be a certain Airas Soares that appears in two Galician documents from the region of Ourense, dated from the beginning of the 13th century (1204), in one of them together with a certain Paio Soares de Ribela (which may be the father of the troubadour Rui Pais de Ribela) and with one Fernão Pais (possibly the troubadour from Tamalhancos), data which is concurring with the placement of his songs at the very beginning of the troubadourian collection, a sign that he would have been one of the oldest Galician-Portuguese authors.Recently, however, José António Souto Cabo2, revising the interpretation that has tradicionally been made of the name that appears in de Coloci Index (where the lection is Ayra S oares), defends that the correct form of his name should be Airas Oares, identifying him as Dom Airas Oares [de Lima?], a knight that is documented in 1187 confirming an agreement between the monasteries of Sobrado and Oseira. This way, he would be the son of Dom Oeiro Airas and the first cousin of another of the early troubadours, Osoiro Anes. Also, Souto Cabo adds that Airas Oares was probably married to Maria Peres Bazaco, an aunt of the troubadour Pero Pais Bazaco
