Pero de Ver
Jogral medieval

Nationality: Incerta

Biographical Note:

We know nothing of this author, probably a galician minstrel, maybe originary from S. Vicente de Ver, a village located south of Bóveda, in the land of Lemos, in Galicia, as Resende de Oliveira suggests1 (also taking into account the fact that this village is close to the location of S. Xulian, toponym quoted in one of his songs). Actually, one Pero de Ver is documented in the region in 1240. But another Pero de Ver is equally documented in Portugal, in 1236, in this case with the surname probably related with S. João de Ver, a village in the lands of Santa Maria, near Lamas (and in close proximity to Gião, former S. Julião), which introduces some uncertainty about his naturality. Nevertheless, his period of activity should have been around the mid-13th century.
